Editor’s Note: With great enthusiasm we are excited to announce that the Larp Girl has joined the blogging/vlogging team here at Larping.org. We are big fans of her work, her emphasis on immersion in gameplay and her love of the ART (as she calls it) of larp. She will be contributing weekly on our blog and you can follow her on Twitter, Facebook and her Tumblr.
Live action role play is such a different experience for all of us. Here is how I got started and how I decided what style of larping was for me.

Larp Elven Battle Sword
Larp Greco Sword
Knights Fighter Larp Sword
I moved this here from youtube, perhaps it will be more likely to engender discussion here.
I agree immersion is a valid goal, however I think that if people choose to value accessibility and/or comfort over immersion, (or to focus on more on combat and plot at the expense of immersion during meal times), those are valid goals as well. Choosing immersion over them is not inherently superior. Just different. Similarly, those of us who use “duct tape weapons” don’t consider them inherently silly- I hear combat is more realistic if you swing more than 90 degrees or thrust with the tip without worrying about real injury. Both latex and boffer-style weapons have their advantages and disadvantages.
